We perceive others at first sight based on what they wear and how they dress. In this collection, I falsify these notions of stereotypes and prejudices, by creating counterfeits. I mash up multiple traits of existing garments. Every object/garment has its function, but what happens when you deconstruct conventional patterns of safety garments, a white shirt, a pair of pants, a military vest or even a prison uniform?
Once that is done, all that’s left are fabrics with symbolic traits of previous garments. Placing these fabrics in a different context that I roughly stitch together in order to reconstruct new complex garments. That makes the symbols/traits of garments complicated, this counterfeit is giving a surrealistic view and falsifies one’s perception.
I create my own chimera.
